Roma Sack Manager Zeman

Zdenek Zeman
It is now official, Roma have sacked Coach Zdenek Zeman after last night’s 4-2 home defeat to Cagliari and handed the reins temporarily to Aurelio Andreazzoli.

Andreazzoli is a 59-year-old technique coach who has worked with Luciano Spalletti, Vincenzo Montella, Luis Enrique and Zeman.

The decision was made following three hours of crisis talks this morning between a set of Giallorossi directors including Franco Baldini, Walter Sabatini and Italo Zanzi.

Baldini phoned President James Pallotta in Boston overnight to discuss the situation, which had become untenable after a shock 4-2 home defeat to Cagliari. Over 500 fans protested outside the stadium after the game, which saw the Giallorossi slide further down the standings.

Zdenek Zeman has said goodbye to the Roma fans after he was sacked yesterday. “I’m sorry, but I tried to give my all.”

The Coach was fired after crisis talks, as last night’s 4-2 home defeat to Cagliari proved to be the final straw. He released a brief statement on his official website this evening.

“I am sorry for the Roma fans, but I tried to give my all. Zdenek Zeman.”

This was his second spell with the Giallorossi, as he also sat on the Olimpico bench from 1997 to 1999.

Reports continue to swirl around on who will be the long-term replacement for Zeman, as there are rumours Laurent Blanc turned down the job.

Marco Giampaolo and Walter Novellino have been mentioned as caretaker managers until the end of the season.
