Andreazzoli Believes In Players, Not Systems

Aurelio Andreazzoli in action.
AS Roma caretaker coach Aurelio Andreazzoli has underlined his philosophy that football is about the players rather than tactical systems.

The new boss was promoted from his role as technical coach after Zdenek Zeman was sacked on Saturday, having worked with the Giallorossi through the reigns of Luciano Spalletti, Vincenzo Montella, Luis Enrique, and of course the deposed Zeman.

“The players count 100%,
and the system counts for nothing. It’s simply the end result of the characteristics of different elements,” Andreazzoli told Roma’s official website.

“Someone once said, ‘If the Coach is doing no harm then he’s doing a good job.’And I agree. If the Coach manages to coordinate the energy well then he’s doing a lot. Otherwise, he can only take away from the team. The players are the ones with the leading roles.”

When asked who his inspiration as a coach has come from, Andreazzoli was quick to name former AC Milan and Italy boss Arrigo Sacchi.

“If anyone made an impression on me in the past it’s Sacchi. Before his time football was being played without being studied in depth.

“Another important figure for me is Silvio Baldini. As a player he never played at a high level, and as a coach he started from the bottom and made it to the Serie A. He has a natural gift for the game.”

Andreazzoli was also asked what activities he enjoys in his spare time.

“I like mountain biking, running, swimming, going out in the snow and playing tennis.”
