The Italian was in attendance at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris last weekend as he watched his ex- club Sampdoria beat Roma 3-1.
Lamela, the Argentina international, scored the
capital club’s only goal and is believed to be on the radar of Mancini, who wants to revamp his attacking options as soon as the summer transfer period starts.
Samir Nasri has struggled this season, while Scott Sinclair has failed to make an impact at all, and the City boss believes the former River Plate attacker could thrive alongside David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.
The 20-year-old, who has grabbed 11 goals and two assists in Serie A this term, signed for an initial fee of £15m in the summer of 2011 but Roma would be willing to cash in if City make a substantial offer.
And according to sources in Italy, Mancini was also keeping an eye on Lamela’s Brazilian team-mate Marquinho.
The 26-year-old, who joined Roma from Fluminense last year, has scored five goals during his time at the Stadio Olimpico.
