AS Roma vs Cagliari (Preview)

AS Roma vs Cagliari Preview.
Friday night football comes from the Stadio Olimpico as Roma aims to get back on track when they host a Cagliari side which comes with renewed confidence in recent form as well as a decent record against Roma.

Roma have had a troubling week and their poor league form has seen them dropped to eight spot
in Serie A, three points off a Europa League qualification spot. They have managed just one win in their last six Serie A matches, there was rumours that Zdenek Zeman could be on his way out of the side.

No doubt that Roma have been plagues by imbalance as well as inconsistency on the pitch this season and it was shown by the 3-3 draw with Bologna last weekend. Despite scoring goals, they also conceded silly schoolboy errors in defence. Zeman’s position will be reviewed after this match. Rumoured to have been asked to reintroduce Maarten Stekelenburg and Daniele De Rossi to the starting eleven, Zeman’s irritation at the Press coverage he has called will now be looked at closely when he names his starting lineup tonight.

Cagliari meanwhile are unbeaten in their last three matches and collected five points from their last three games saw them improved on their previous seven-week decline in League position. However, even though there was much to cheer in the draw against fellow relegation candidates Palermo, it was also seen as a missed chance to get all three points. They had twice as many attempts at goal but they failed to convert their chances and produced more goals.

It has been reported that Diego Lopez and Ivo Pulga has been toying with the idea of introducing a three man attack comprising of Victor Ibarbo, Marco Sau and Mauricio Pinilla. But with Cagliagi have had in the past good and memorable visits to the Stadio Olimpico, there could be a surprise in store for Roma come Friday night.

For the record, the last nine League meetings home and away between Roma and Cagliari have averaged just over four goals a game. So we can expect to see plenty of goals here.

Possible lineups:

Roma: Stekelenburg; Piris, Burdisso, Castan, Dodo; Bradley, Tachtsidis, Florenzi; Lamela, Osvaldo, Totti.

Cagliari: Agazzi; Pisano, Astori, Rossettini, Avelar; Dessena, Conti, Ekdal; Nainggolan; Sau, Ibarbo.
