Speaking to Thanh Nien on Sunday, Ms. Mae Mua, Director of Strata Sports Marketing Ltd., said that the fee to invite the Italian club would be about US$1-1.5 million.
“Other European clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and
Arsenal usually ask for $2-3m while AS Roma just asks for half of that amount,” Mua said.
Asked if the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) would pay that fee, Mua said, “Strata will incur the cost by calling for sponsors and hopes to recoup some by selling tickets. We will work with VFF to arrange the event only. VFF will not have to pay anything.”
Mua also said that AS Roma did not ask for a huge amount but it asked to be welcomed in an internationally formal way, providing 5-star hotel accommodation and absolute security.
Strata won’t have to worry about this matter because VFF has experience in welcoming world-famous clubs to Vietnam, Mua said.
AS Roma players are expected to fly to South East Asia in the club’s own plane and play in Indonesia and China before coming to Vietnam.
Mua said they have reached 70% of agreement and what remains is a matter of finance, and they hope to reach an agreement soon.
According to Mua, AS Roma has promised to bring its best players to Vietnam, including the two stars Francesco Totti and De Rossi, who were on the Italian team that won the 2006 World Cup championship.
