Sabatini Signs Contract Extension

Walter Sabatini
Walter Sabatini's deal was due to expire next month, though has been extended by a year. It means that he'll continue on in his role as sporting director of AS Roma until June 2014.

He was first appointed to the role in 2011, when American Thomas Di Benedetto took over the club. Since then Sabatini - who had been director at Lazio and Palermo before joining Roma - has been responsible for the club's transfer business.

Having impressed with signings including Maarten Stekelenburg, Erik Lamela, Marquinhos and Miralem Pjanić, it's little surprise that he's
being retained.

A bigger question for Sabatini and Roma now is what to do with their interim coach Aurelio Andreazzoli. They have been in good form since sacking Zdenek Zeman in February, and are only a couple of points adrift of the Europa League places with two games left to play. AC Milan coach Max Allegri has been strongly linked with the position.
