Pardew is desperate to add another striker to his squad after failing to replace Demba Ba in January and St Etienne’s Aubameyang was considered high on his list of priorities.
A further raid of the French league was on the cards this summer for the Toon but it appears Roma have agreed to meet the asking price for the 23-year-old which is thought to be around £11million.
Manchester City and West Ham have also
been linked with the Gabon striker in the summer but it appears the Premier League trio will have to act quickly to beat the Italians to his signature.
Aubameyang’s father has confirmed that Roma are close to agreeing a deal with St Etienne and that his son is about to make the next step in his promising career.
“Roma are ready to meet the price set by St Etienne, which is between €12m and €15m (£10.2m and £12.7m),” Aubameyang’s father told press in Gabon.
