Andreazzoli: Roma Needed More Creativity

Aurelio Andreazzoli
According to club’s official site, Roma manager Aurelio Andreazzoli has admitted that his side could have done better against Serie A giants AC Milan in their match at the San Siro yesterday, but insists that the quality gap between the two teams is not as stark as many think.

The Giallorossi were unable to capitalise on their man advantage yesterday against AC Milan as the Rossoneri’s Sulley Muntari was sent off just four minutes before half-time.

Lacking a clinical finish, both sides had to settle for a goalless deadlock which saw Roma’s Francesco Totti also sent off in the closing minutes of
the match.

"We didn’t show enough movement off the ball? That’s what I told them", Andreazzoli told the club’s official site.

"In particular they needed to move more when Totti was on the ball. We spent ages running through that in training yesterday but unfortunately we didn’t put it into practice on the pitch", the head coach added.

Andreazzoli also lamented his side’s lack of creativity, something they must have if they are to win the Coppa Italia; they will play in the final against local rivals Lazio on 27th May.

"We needed to show a little more quality to take our chances. We were very good in the first half, then in the second half we lacked ideas", the Roma tactician rued.

"We found it hard to play the final ball and get our timing right. I very much enjoyed watching the opening period of the match and I’m sorry Muntari was sent off: I’d have preferred to play the whole thing 11 against 11. These games are important to help us prepare for the cup final."

But Andreazzoli believes the draw has shown that the Rossoneri and Roma are not far apart in terms of quality.

"Are the ten points between Roma and Milan a true reflection of the difference between the sides? I don’t think so. I think we have as much quality as Milan", the manager concluded.
